At the Venice Film Festival's "Maria" standing ovation, Angelina Jolie started crying.

On Thursday, Angelina Jolie experienced something poignant at the Venice Film Festival.

The Oscar winner was in attendance at the Venice feature Festival for the world premiere of her new feature "Maria." She was overcome with emotion by the thunderous, and apparently prolonged, applause that followed the movie. Video footage shows Jolie wiping tears from her face as she was led down a stairway in the theater amid the wild applause.

On Thursday, Alba Rohrwacher and Pierfrancesco Favino, who are in the cast of "Maria," were present at the theater alongside Pablo Larraín, the director of the movie.
In the biography "Maria," Angelina Jolie plays the legendary opera soprano Maria Callas. The film recalls Callas' dying days and narrates her tragic and turbulent life, all set in Paris in the 1970s.

Since its Venice premiere, the film has already generated talk about potential Oscar winners. Larraín previously directed "Spencer," which had Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana in 2021, and "Jackie," which starred Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, in 2016. For their roles, both actresses were nominated for Academy Awards.

Jolie claimed to have been able to relate to Callas in unexpected ways during a press conference for the upcoming movie earlier on Thursday, according to People. "The part of her that's extremely soft and doesn't have room in the world to be as soft as she truly is, and as emotionally open as she truly is" was one of them, according to her statement.

Jolie remarked, "I share her vulnerability more than anything."
Netflix revealed on Wednesday that "Maria" will air on the streaming service at a later time.
