Tyreek Hill, a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, was reportedly arrested by police and then released before the team's season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The 30-year-old arrived to Hard Rock Stadium following the incident and is expected to play against the Jaguars.
According to a Dolphins statement, external, "WR Tyreek
Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident this morning about one block from
the stadium and briefly detained by police."
"He has since been released. "When they witnessed the situation, a
number of teammates came to provide assistance. Tyreek and all other
participating players have made it to the stadium safely and are expected to
play in today's match."
Hill was seen on the ground and handcuffed by cops in an ESPN video.
The "heartbreaking situation" was described by
Hill's agent Drew Rosenhaus to ESPN, saying, but Hill was unharmed and will
still play for the Dolphins.
He said: "How things escalated into the situation they were in - handcuffs
and being held on the ground by police - is mind-boggling to me. "That
greatly worries and troubles me. We'll investigate it further."He added:
"This is crazy, I've never seen anything like it."
Miami Police have not yet responded.
