Salmonella cases connected to Milo's Poultry Farms recalled eggs are identified by the DHS

WBAY, Madison, Wisconsin - Eggs with the "Milo's Poultry Farms" and "Tony's Fresh Market" brands are the subject of a voluntary food recall. According to a Friday report from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), 42 people in Wisconsin have fallen ill.

Investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections connected to eggs from a Wisconsin farm is the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in collaboration with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP), local health departments, and federal partners. The epidemic strain of Salmonella has infected 65 persons in nine states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This comprises forty-two Wisconsin residents.

DATCP reports that Milo's Poultry Farms LLC of Bonduel announced the recall on Friday owing to the possibility of Salmonella contamination in these eggs.Salmonella can infect small children, the elderly, the frail, and those with compromised immune systems with serious and occasionally fatal infections.

The DHS reports that the eggs have been recalled after being supplied through food service distributors and retail outlets in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan. All egg varieties, including conventional, cage-free, organic, and non-GMO eggs, as well as carton sizes and expiration dates in containers with the labels "Milo's Poultry Farms" or "Tony's Fresh Market," are included in the recall.
It is recommended that anyone who purchased the recalled eggs discard them and refrain from eating or cooking with them. Recalled eggs should not be served or sold in restaurants.
Eggs from Milo's Poultry Farms were supplied to food service distributors and retail establishments in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan.

This recall includes:

1. "Milo's Poultry Farms" is printed on the label of every size carton and every variety of egg. This recall pertains to all dates of expiration.
2. Eggs bearing the "Tony's Fresh Market" logo in all carton sizes. This recall pertains to all dates of expiration.
3. Every egg case intended for distribution to retail food services. This recall pertains to all dates of expiration.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notified the company that environmental samples tested positive for the bacteria, which prompted the recall.
After performing whole genome sequencing, the FDA discovered that the samples were connected to an ongoing investigation into a Salmonella epidemic.
At this point, Milo's Poultry Farms, LLC has stopped producing and distributing, and the farms and processing equipment will go through the necessary testing and sanitization.
